Dr. Matthew Fenton is a consultant paediatric cardiologist at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH), specialising in heart muscle disorders and heart transplantation.
From a research perspective I am interested in the development of cardiac allograft vasculopathy (coronary disease after transplant) and have set up the use of intravascular ultrasound, developing an analysis method used to track changes in the coronary arteries over time. A particular interest is the role of endothelial dysfunction in this process, and the link between inflammation and coagulation early after transplant. Recently I have been awarded a grant to investigate the detection of donor derived cell free DNA in blood after transplant.
I have also contributed to both UK national and international guidelines, contributing chapters for ISHLT monographs on both heart transplantation and heart failure.
