Miriam Kaufman was an Adolescent Medicine physician at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto from 1985-2017. Her main interest was adolescents with chronic health conditions, including transition to adult care. She worked with patients in the cardiac, renal and lung transplantation programmes at SickKids starting in the early 1990's. Miriam is the author of several books, including Easy for You to Say: Q&A's for Teens Living With a Chronic Illness or Disability and The Ultimate Guide to Sex and Disability. Miriam is now an artisan, making glass beads, silver jewelery, spinning yarn and dyeing fibre. She is happily emerging from retirement to talk about important conversations that transplant professionals need to have with their preadolescent and adolescent patients.
